1IN THE beginning God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth.In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2The earth was without form and an empty waste, and darkness was upon the face of the very great deep. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters.The earth was empty, a formless mass cloaked in darkness. And the Spirit of God was hovering over its surface.The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.
3And God said, Let there be light; and there was light.Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.
4And God saw that the light was good (suitable, pleasant) and He approved it; and God separated the light from the darkness.And God saw that it was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness.God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.
5And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.God called the light "day" and the darkness "night." Together these made up one day.God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
6And God said, Let there be a firmament [the expanse of the sky] in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters [below] from the waters [above].And God said, "Let there be space between the waters, to separate water from water."Then God said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters."
7And God made the firmament [the expanse] and separated the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse. And it was so.And so it was. God made this space to separate the waters above from the waters below.God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so.
8And God called the firmament Heavens. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.And God called the space "sky." This happened on the second day.God called the expanse heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.
9And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be collected into one place [of standing], and let the dry land appear. And it was so.And God said, "Let the waters beneath the sky be gathered into one place so dry ground may appear." And so it was.Then God said, "Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear"; and it was so.
10God called the dry land Earth, and the accumulated waters He called Seas. And God saw that this was good (fitting, admirable) and He approved it.God named the dry ground "land" and the water "seas." And God saw that it was good.God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good.
11And God said, Let the earth put forth [tender] vegetation: plants yielding seed and fruit trees yielding fruit whose seed is in itself, each according to its kind, upon the earth. And it was so.Then God said, "Let the land burst forth with every sort of grass and seed-bearing plant. And let there be trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. The seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came." And so it was.Then God said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them"; and it was so.
12The earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed according to their own kinds and trees bearing fruit in which was their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good (suitable, admirable) and He approved it.The land was filled with seed-bearing plants and trees, and their seeds produced plants and trees of like kind. And God saw that it was good.The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good.
13And there was evening and there was morning, a third day.This all happened on the third day.There was evening and there was morning, a third day.
14And God said, Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be signs and tokens [of God`s provident care], and [to mark] seasons, days, and years,And God said, "Let bright lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. They will be signs to mark off the seasons, the days, and the years.Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;
15And let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light upon the earth. And it was so.Let their light shine down upon the earth." And so it was.and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth"; and it was so.
16And God made the two great lights--the greater light (the sun) to rule the day and the lesser light (the moon) to rule the night. He also made the stars.For God made two great lights, the sun and the moon, to shine down upon the earth. The greater one, the sun, presides during the day; the lesser one, the moon, presides through the night. He also made the stars.God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also.
17And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth,God set these lights in the heavens to light the earth,God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,
18To rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good (fitting, pleasant) and He approved it.to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. 19And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.This all happened on the fourth day.There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.
20And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly and swarm with living creatures, and let birds fly over the earth in the open expanse of the heavens.And God said, "Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind."Then God said, "Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens."
21God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good (suitable, admirable) and He approved it.So God created great sea creatures and every sort of fish and every kind of bird. And God saw that it was good.God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good.
22And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let the fowl multiply in the earth.Then God blessed them, saying, "Let the fish multiply and fill the oceans. Let the birds increase and fill the earth."God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth."
23And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.This all happened on the fifth day.There was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.
24And God said, Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creeping things, and [wild] beasts of the earth according to their kinds. And it was so.And God said, "Let the earth bring forth every kind of animal--livestock, small animals, and wildlife." And so it was.Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind"; and it was so.
25And God made the [wild] beasts of the earth according to their kinds, and domestic animals according to their kinds, and everything that creeps upon the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good (fitting, pleasant) and He approved it.God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to reproduce more of its own kind. And God saw that it was good.God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good.
26God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth.Then God said, "Let us make people in our image, to be like ourselves. They will be masters over all life--the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the livestock, wild animals, and small animals."Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
27So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.So God created people in his own image; God patterned them after himself; male and female he created them.God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
28And God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.God blessed them and told them, "Multiply and fill the earth and subdue it. Be masters over the fish and birds and all the animals."God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
29And God said, See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the land and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food.And God said, "Look! I have given you the seed-bearing plants throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you;
30And to all the animals on the earth and to every bird of the air and to everything that creeps on the ground--to everything in which there is the breath of life--I have given every green plant for food. And it was so.And I have given all the grasses and other green plants to the animals and birds for their food." And so it was.and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food"; and it was so.
31And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good (suitable, pleasant) and He approved it completely. And there was evening and there was morning, a sixth day.Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was excellent in every way. This all happened on the sixth day.God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
